Surrendering to the Cosmic Dance, Part XIV

There are so many “entry points” for connecting/feeling into subtle energies sourced in the central core of the body (especially in the spine). Once you notice and acknowledge that you can and are able to direct and hold your attention on finer and finer sensations, then you will be surprised at how close and accessible these subtle energies have always been.

You will understand that there are no insignificant sensations, for they can all connect you with the finer sensations just underneath them. However, there are some particular sensations that I believe can more quickly impart the experience of what I write.

For example, the next time you find yourself laughing over something that hits your “funny bone,” feel deeply into the overall sensation of the body, the reverberations of what is activating you to laugh. Feel and follow to its source the subtle vibrations moving through the body.

By tuning into and following sensations to finer and finer subtlety, you may find how every sensation is connected with a wider underlying vibration or resonance…and these underlying vibrations have a corresponding sensation that feels vastly wider and more expansive than the superficial “entry point “ sensation.

Surrendering to the Cosmic Dance, Part XIII

“Surrendering to the Cosmic Dance” refers to the play of Life Force (the awakening Kundalini) in the body, especially in the central core of the spine. As you feel deeper and deeper into subtle sensations, the mind begins to quiet down and the focus on subtlety allows the underlying field of the Bliss Resonance to begin percolating up into the awareness.

This “bubbling up” of the Bliss Resonance creates a buildup of energy/life force that feels like (at least to me) a kind of giddiness. Now, it seems that the deeper you feel into subtlety, the more the buildup of energy occurs in the body…and when this buildup reaches a certain threshold, the body begins to shake and move as a way to manage the overflow of energies.

In the beginning, the energy buildup can be too much for the body and nervous system to handle gracefully. In other words, there might be some flailing and ungraceful contortions of the body.

However, as the body and nervous system grow in strength and capacity, the movements become more and more graceful. The body, mind and Life Force learn to dance together, surrendered to the lead of the Cosmic Dancer, the Awakened Kundalini!

Surrendering to the Cosmic Dance, Part XII

There is no difficulty in feeling into finer and finer sensations. It just requires a slight shift in perspective, one that feels into the “overall” sensation of the body.

Of course it is fine to start with feeling into isolated areas of the body, such as the hands, feet, stomach, heart, etc. As I’ve suggested before, if you clap your hands loudly and then place them on your lap palms up, you can quickly understand and “get” what it means to follow sensations to deeper and deeper levels of subtlety.

The initial strong vibrations begin to slowly fade, but you will notice that you can continue to feel the vibrations going on and on, pretty much indefinitely. Now, this is where the mind might chime in with “So what, big deal!” It resists going deeper because of its habitual patterns of connecting outwardly with the dense and obvious vibrations (thoughts, memories, desires, etc.) in its familiar environment.

My suggestion here is to take notice of the subtle “feel-good” sensations that are very close when your mind is inwardly focused. These sensations might initially be small like a “grain of sand,” but nevertheless accessible when the “antennae” of your feelings are relaxed and inwardly focused.

For example, tense the entire body, take a deep breath, hold the breath and tension for a few counts, then exhale and relax the body. Notice that in exhaling and releasing tension in the body, there is a subtle but pleasant sensation involved…a “feel-good” sensation!

By following,/tracking this “feel-good” sensation to deeper and deeper levels of subtlety, you will experience and “get” its connection with the underlying field of the Bliss Resonance!

Surrendering to the Cosmic Dance, Part XI

The overall sensation of the body, when followed to its subtle reverberation in the spine, is the Life Force, the awakening Kundalini.

I find that there is an interesting paradox when it comes to Kundalini, especially in terms of its connection with “subtle” sensations. What I mean by this is that it confounds the mind that sensations so subtle can have such strong effect on the body, mind and psyche!

To me, the paradox of Kundalini is the mystery of how such power, beauty and bliss can be “squeezed” through what seems to be a microscopically thin “thread” of sensation vibrating in the spine!

When Kundalini is active in the body, the effects are hardly subtle. Initially, the body may writhe and shake uncontrollably, as the nervous system is not yet able to accommodate the “voltage” of what flows through. As the body and nervous system grow in capacity and strength, the expression of Kundalini through the body becomes more graceful and dance-like.

In this “dance” with Kundalini, the mind is not so active but rather in neutral, observation mode. The sensitivity and attunement with the underlying vibration of Kundalini is at the fore of awareness. The mind is either in the state of “no-thought” or in observer mode that dispassionately watches the coming and going of thoughts, as from a distance.

The experience of “no-thought” is not a mentally “blank” state but rather a most delicate attunement with the feeling state of the “Bliss Resonance.” The Bliss Resonance is the underlying vibration, the overall sensation, the “resonance” of all that you feel in the moment.

It is the delicate sensation of Bliss that begins to percolate up into your experience the more you simply allow yourselves to feel the overall sensation of the moment.

Initially the feeling may be a pleasant “feel-good” sensation that is gently uplifting. It is important to understand and acknowledge the significance of this initial point of connection. The subtlety of the experience represents an entry point that allows you to go deeper and deeper into the Bliss Resonance.

Although the initial experience may be subtle, it is in the subtlety of vibration wherein lies deeper and deeper connection and attunement with the Bliss Resonance!

When your mind is “tuned” into subtle vibrations that move delicately in the central core/channel of the spine, the “spotlight” of your mind is turned inwardly. The intention is to connect with finer and finer sensations…sensations normally ignored because they are so subtle.

With the mind connected to subtlety, you are given glimpses of the flighty, superficial mind ”doing its thing” of bouncing around…but you are not attached to it. You are offered the gift of perspective that is not identified with the superficial, “monkey-mind.”

From this unique perspective of the inwardly flowing attention, the mind can be observed doing its thing of bouncing around, “firing-off” thoughts, memories, etc. However, you observe as though from a distance, without attaching or identifying with them!

From this feeling-centered perspective, you will begin to notice layer upon layers of sensations and subtle reverberations that percolate up into your awareness. All that is required is that you simply hold intention to feel into finer and finer sensations! Not so much any specific sensation, but rather the overall sensation of all that you feel in the moment.

The “overall sensation” of your body begins to then “resolve” or “refine” to a wider resonance (or Hum) that seems to be sourced at the central core or channel of the spine. The sensation is like a microscopic thread vibrating in the spine, creating an uplifting, blissful experience that activates the body to twist and contort spontaneously in dance-like movements, reminiscent of Balinese or belly dance!

Surrendering to the Cosmic Dance, Part IX

Ideals such as enlightenment, God, samadhi, satori, spiritual freedom, etc. may be lofty and worthy concepts to include in prayers/intentions, but not so practical when it comes to simply being, feeling in the moment.

When feeling into the overall vibration/sensation of the moment, any expectation or lofty assumption regarding the experience may create an unnecessary and unwanted barrier in the primal experience of Being.

There is a divine simplicity in feeling into finer and finer sensations…no expectations, assumptions, judgements, etc. Just the experience of the overall sensation of Being!

At first the mind may resist, defaulting to habits of constantly engaging with outer desires and distractions. In other words, it “bounces” around in constant motion, disengaged from the underlying subtle currents.

It resists going against the tidal pull of the habitual patterns that keeps the mind in perpetual engagement with the superficial and boisterous waves of the Earthly drama.

How to disengage the mind from its preoccupation with the superficial drama? I believe it is important to understand the concept of “pattern disrupt.” What I mean by this is that so long as we remain on the surface of habitual thinking and feeling, the momentum of habits will keep us caught in the “patterns” of superficial thinking and feeling.

Now, the idea of “pattern disrupt” is one that tunes us to a different “resonance” or “pattern” of consciousness…mainly subtle sensations. Feeling into subtle sensations provides the “pattern disrupt.”

Pattern disrupt provides a different perspective…one that switches from being “thought-centered” to “feeling-centered.” With the intention to feel into finer and finer sensations, the momentum of awareness shifts away from superficial “bouncing around.”

It shifts to one that is able to not only observe the flittering of the mind, but to one that is also able to feel the subtle currents deep in the spine.

I think of the “Cosmic Dance” as a play with subtle sensations that are always accessible when we allow ourselves to shift to the mindset that allows that there are no insignificant sensations.

With this shift in perspective, the awareness is then opened to infinitely fine nuances of vibrations that move through the body in waves, pulsations, reverberations, etc.

Again, these sensations are not difficult to feel. I believe the main “hurdle” is in the mind’s habit of discounting and ignoring what it may deem to be insignificant…unworthy of exploring. In other words, what value/purpose in exploring subtle sensations/vibrations?

The mind will do what it is “patterned” to do, to judge, define and assign relative value to all things in its environment. Why would it want to pay attention to what may seem insignificant, mundane?

My suggestion here is that, when simply feeling into finer and finer vibrations, it is fairly easy to experience what I’ve referred to earlier as the “feel-good” sensation. Initially this is very subtle, but still easy to feel. As you focus upon this subtle sensation, notice how the mind shifts, begins to quiet down.

The mind goes into “Observer/Witness” mode and the experience of the overall sensation of the body begins to feel wider and wider as the underlying Bliss Resonance begins to percolate up in your awareness.

Surrendering to the Cosmic Dance, Part VII

The focus of mind upon subtle sensations is like holding to a delicate “thread” of vibration. This “thread” creates a fine tension in the body that can be tracked to what may feel like “center,” or the central channel of the spine.

For me, the sensation of “giddiness” comes fairly close in describing the vibration…a gentle, subtle giddiness moving deliciously, like strands of silk being pulled through the spine!

It is an activating sensation sourced not in any coarse, outer stimulation, but rather in an inwardly focused attention that connects with finer and finer “currents” and “waves” of subtle sensations (the awakening Kundalini).

What I believe happens is that as the attention is inwardly focused upon fine vibrations, at a certain point, the awareness connects with the expansiveness of the inwardly directed mind…like stepping into the “slip-stream” of the Bliss Resonance that begins to percolate up in awareness the more we feel into subtlety!

The giddiness part occurs as a result of the buildup of energy (Life Force) in response to the body’s connection with the bubbling up of the Bliss Resonance. As mentioned before, initially the Bliss Resonance may be experienced as a gentle “feel-good” sensation in the spine and rest of the body.

With greater sensitivity to these subtle sensations, you might notice that the body intuitively knows how to adjust to the buildup of the Life Force in the spine and body through “micro-movements” and certain postures. These “adjustments” happen naturally and spontaneously.

At this point you will understand that what you might be experiencing as giddiness is the energy that is prompting you to adjust the body in micro-movements. The play of subtlety has begun! You have entered the realm of the Cosmic Dance!

When the Bliss Resonance begins to “bleed through” in your growing sensitivity to subtle sensations, at first the feeling may be a simple “feel good” experience. I mention this because the mind can easily get in the way with its expectations, beliefs and assumptions around the concept of “Bliss Resonance.”

The mind, in seeking and expecting the big experiences of Bliss, Samadhi, Satori, etc., will most likely miss the infinitely subtle reverberations that are entry points to the wider experience that the soul longs for.

As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, these “infinitely subtle reverberations” are easy enough to feel, but the mind may balk at the idea of feeling into sensations that it considers mundane and inconsequential.

The suggestion here is to simply feel the overall sensation of all that you feel in the moment, with intention to follow/track sensations to finer and finer subtlety. Understand that any resistance of the mind to simply feel in the moment will keep the mind on the surface, easily distracted by thoughts, memories and desires.

However, by going even slightly below superficial sensations, you may notice how the mind can be held in place by its focus on subtle vibrations. Although fleeting, the experience conveys the power of the feeling state (not emotions) to hold the mind in one-pointed focus.

The perspective changes from mind-centered to feeling-centered. As you go deeper into subtle sensations, this is where the “bleed-through” of the Bliss Resonance can be experienced.

It seems that by simply feeling into the fine vibrations/sensations of the body, the awareness tunes into the exquisitely subtle current of the Bliss Resonance, which is the primal/foundational vibration that permeates and surrounds the field of the body!

Again, there are no insignificant sensations when it comes to the approach of following vibrations that move through the body. Every breath (the inhale and exhale), every movement, posture, body function, yawning, stretching, etc., all create subtle sensations in the body that can be followed/tracked to finer and finer points of visceral experience.

Allowing yourselves to feel deeper and deeper into these seemingly mundane functions of the body requires a shift in perspective that moves away from mind-centered to feeling-centered.

When feeling deeper and deeper into any sensation, the natural “direction” of awareness is towards the wider “field” of vibration/sensation. For example, upon awakening in the morning, as you yawn and stretch the body, the reverberations of the yawn continue on long afterwards.

Now, as you continue tracking sensations to finer and finer subtlety, notice the wider expanse of the underlying (or overall) vibration of the body. Understand that following subtlety opens the awareness to wider and wider vibratory fields!

At first, the mind may distract you away from going deeper into subtlety, but as you become more familiar with the “dance” of subtle vibrations in the body, you will find your awareness “held” for longer and longer periods by what begins to “bleed through”: the Bliss Resonance!
